How about helping out this artist with a vote? I'd appreciate it a lot!

Sai, PS

Japanese for "Endurance"

A contest piece for :iconavatar-fan:
The theme was: What if Korra never met the Fire Ferrets? Create a waterbender for the team.

Now, I never intended on joining, however, when my bro pitched me the idea of an armless Waterbender, I knew it was too good to pass up uncreated.

Now this is an awesome concept. Someone who lacks arms, but uses Hydrokinesis abilities to replace them. It's a good thing she isn't too crippled now, though I can see how easily she can lose them.

Reminds me of one of my Sonic Fan-characters, Polyphemus, who also lacks arms, but has something to partially replace them.

They actually put a character like this (waterbender with diamelia who uses water whips as prosthetic arms) on The Legend of Korra proper.  Unfortunately, she was a one-season secondary antagonist.

Yay, TV Tropes links!  I'm pretty sure the show creators draw from lots of fan ideas when writing LoK.  It especially shows in Book 3, when they whip out the lethal airbending.

So did the show give any credit for your idea or no. Frankly it could be just a coincidence. The characters themselves are obviously very different and many people say that Suzanne Collins stole the idea for the hunger games form Danganronpa but her flipping throw channels story also sounds credible.

Still, If the creators did "borrow" the idea it would be nice if they at least asked permission

Heh, there's really no proof that they got the idea from me :) Plenty of people come up with variations of the same idea given that we all draw from the same source of Creativity. It's still pretty exciting seeing your concept appear; I mean, plenty of fans have their headcanons, but how many of those headcanons actually become true?

If I meet the creators, I'll be sure to shake their hands :)

Interesting character design, BUT you need your arms to bend the elements, there for your character wouldn't work in the universe.

Yakone, Amon and Ming Hua would beg to differ.  Ming Hua can command water with just her torso, and Yakone and Amon can control the water inside your body with nothing more than a glare.

And they have these powers due to a training for a long time. I already had a conversation about this with someone, Her powers make her a sue. Unless she trained for years, she could not have these powers and people forget that, the people who have those powers are evil and sues them selves, they were made for the main cast to defeat.

1. How do you know what Ming Hua's training was like?  As a member of the Red Lotus, she would have been encouraged to develop her potential, and given every opportunity to do so.

2. Yeah, she's a standard Avatar villain.  Of course she was made crazy powerful, then set up for defeat.  How does that make her a sue?

Earth bending is different, I remember from the old show that you need to use your "whole" body to control the water, including your arms.

Who is an overpowered bad guy, put into the story for Korra to overcome, no a little girl who save her parents in a accident.

Just seems over powered of a simple character to have.

Earth benders are different to water benders, earth benders are always in contact with the earth, while water benders need a source of water and for their bending need their arms to help direct the waters flow. ALSO the avatar was the only one to make a working body from water with the help of a spirit, who could this girl have that sort of power.

I'm not saying I don't like the character, Hell I love this idea but it needs revising.

Again there is an actual armless waterbender in Book 3 of Legend of Korra right now. She's one of the new villains her name is Ming Hua. avatar.wikia.com/wiki/Ming-Hua

OOOOh that is very interesting , it doesn't give her arms though, just tentacles and doesn't this just make her a copy of that character? she's basically taken that character and given her a new story and face, Which indeed takes away from the shows character. I know I keep going on, but for me only the show's allowed these type of characters with the sue-ish traits like the arm-less waterbender to keep it interesting, if people make characters like this, it makes the shows character less and less unique.

ALSO! I haven't been watching the new avatar series, I really need to but I keep getting put of due to how I've been compared to a character named Bolin, via body shape and personality.

This OC was made before Ming Hua appeared in the series so she didn't copy the show it was just kind of a coincidence. And yes Ming Hua is capable of making fully fictional arms with waterbending. To the point she was able to use them to climb around and drive a car.

Thanks for telling me this, I just can't shake that this doesn't really work in my head. And I can't imagine how much damage those arms could do to a person, your bodies like 70-80% water and those arms must take a huge part of that.

I will say one more thing I think this suits a earth-bender more.

Well when they got Ming Hua out of prison they threw a barrel of water down to her. She doesn't use the water in her body she uses an outside force like most waterbenders. She also uses a lot of neck and shoulder movement in her bending since she has no arms. She's basically in a group of crazy powerful benders. Their leader is one of the new Airbenders, There's an earth bender who is somehow able to turn earth into lava or magma, and a women with the same powers as Combustion Man able to make explosions with her mind. They're pretty much a group a bad assed out to kill Korra for reasons that have not yet been explained.

Two benders can have the same ability, you know? It's kinda silly to assume that they invented using water to work through their disability. By that logic, Avatar the Last Airbender (2005) should have asked House of Flying Daggers (2004) if it was alright to make a blind character who was still a really good fighter, and in turn, the writers of HoFD should have asked Marvel comics if it was alright, since they created Daredevil in 1964.

Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood should have asked Avatar if they could create a character who can manipulate water, and in turn, can manipulate blood.

I'm not trying to be rude, please don't take this as me being a snarky dickbag, it's just that Illeity certainly wasn't the first to create a disabled character that uses an alternate means of being able to work through around disability.

Given that the Korra series is bent on being darker and more serious than the Aang show, it makes sense that they should have a character like this. A girl whop has had to struggle with a lifelong disability, overcoming those hurdles yet still retaining a sense of humour.

I would love to see a chaarcter like Shinobu in the show.
