Request by I made a few artistic liberties with the appearance of the BFS and nanites.
Generator Rex was a really fun show with a lot of squandered potential. Think about: We have this kid who can create any machine at will. However throughout its short run we only got a few weapon forms and a few transport forms and one defensive form. This is as disappointing as John Stewart in Justice League Unlimited who only made shields, green energy blasts and a few tools here and there.
Chalk it up to merchandising necessity; In order to sell "Generator Rex with Big Fat Sword" or "Generator Rex with Smash Hands" he'd have to be shown using it in many episodes. Still, that Crossover episode with Ben 10 was gobs of fun.
you know, now that i think about it. Rex is the mechanical equivalent to Alex Mercer from prototype. One uses meat, the other metal and they have similar effects, though Rex doges the 'eat people' and disguise parts of the powers set.
I think that the idea behind Rex's weapons was that they were all from a giant robot form he doodled when he was a child. Also, I think they were trying to avoid overcrowding him with weapons like Ben 10's aliens, XJ9 or Inspector Gadget. Kind of giving it an element of control and grounding.
On top of that, they probably wanted to make Rex more resouceful than convenient, as well as a human before a machine.
Interesting point, I didn't realize that (I probably didn't see that episode) I always did compare him to something like a mechanical Green Lantern, but your explanations make good sense. Thanks!
They made up for that by instead having him grow two builds at once.
Although I have personally wondered what would happen if he crossed blueprints in his head, like putting the BFS on the tip of his SlamCannon, giving it sort of a bayonet.
Yup, that's the creativity I was talking about! Or he could use the Slam Cannon to launch BFSs! He has a lot of builds and that could make for a lot of combinations.
