I mean, no one ever seems to be sympathetic toward PB in this instance. As a 13 year old, she obviously liked Finn, so there's probably a good chance she still likes him in some way as an 18 year old, but the age difference is disturbing to her. That probably brings her pain as well; she's just more of a rational and diplomatic sort of person, so she's able to hide it/deal with it a little better. She's also more mature. And she's also a freakin' ruler of the candy kingdom. She has enough on her plate. So what if she put Finn in the friend zone? That doesn't make her a bad person. Sure, maybe she's a little cold sometimes, but she also has a compassionate side. In Burning Low, she obviously cared about Finn's feelings when she thought Jake had explained why he couldn't be with FP (cause she would flippin' melt through the core of the earth!) even though Finn took it the wrong way and snapped at her. And being yelled at like that by a friend hurts, especially if you don't really understand why. But do you see her curl up into a tiny ball and sing a song about being all frozen up or hurt inside (or whatever)? No, cause she has to save her kingdom from Jake and Finn's thick-headedness.
*Sigh* Sorry for the rant, I just get really defensive about PB because she gets a lot of flack, and I get excited when I find someone else who is sympathetic. Anyway, keep up with the phenomenal work, and thanks for the reply!
Zuzubanna, I could not agree with you more. 13-year old PB clearly had strong, strong feelings for Finn, and I cannot believe that she would just toss them away with age. I see PB as someone who is tragically rational and scientific, to the point where at age 18 she has completely suppressed her own emotions. But when Finn finally snaps at her, she realizes what this has done. I don't think she realized just how much he loved her, thinking it was the adolescent crush of a "silly boy". At the end of Burning Low, she clearly seems to regret having let Finn slip away, although she is content with seeing him happy after what she did to him.
Princess Bonnibel Bubblegum has been, is, and will always be my favorite Adventure Time character. She has taken such a huge burden upon herself caring for the Candy Kingdom and trying to rebuild civilization in Ooo, and she willingly makes the sacrifice. While she may not be a perfect person, she tries her best.
It's pretty sad how people change. It hurts even more when the change is gradual until it hits you one day, and your friend is unrecognizable. If only PB stayed the soft bubbly girl from then. But that's how life is sometimes
